Amanda Lew Kee Fall 2011 LG Fashion Week

Where to even begin with this show!
As a Ryerson student I want to support Ryerson grads, but this show makes it really hard for me to do this. Before the show even started everyone was walking around and taking photos because we all knew the show was going to start at least half an hour late. Then some HIDIOUS reusable rolling bags are delivered to a select few in the front rows. Don't get me wrong I know the front row includes the editors and the financial backers and those who will make sales happen, but why should their little presents be given in a big cart that comes from the dollar store they will never use.... it really clashes with their Prada and Coach!

So the show starts with some asian inspired printed coats with zipper panels so you can detach sleeves and bottom halfs. This is normally cool but I've seen it a million times before at H&M, really not a new thing. You would think that this should ADD to a collection because it was one of her main components but it wasn't done right. The fit of ALL the jackets was off, especially down the center back because the zippers rippled and bulged out.

Then there was this grey sweatshirt dress. There was not a single element of grey sweatshirt anywhere else on the runway... and half of the edges on this thing weren't finished or even cut nicely. My cat could have sewn something nicer!

Then there were a couple of see through outfits that had nice elements such as high waisted underwear. But there were flower brooches pinned in between boobs, and between boobs and underarms. It made the model look as though she was growing gorilla armpit hair. Yuch.

Then there was an ill fitting simple slip dress. The model had a funny rubcage to boob ratio going on so she shouldn't have been in something that fitted, not to mention the ONLY fitted thing in the collection.

THEN the worst thing imaginable happened. My easter present wrapping paper from when I was 3 (keep in mind this was in the 1990's) came out on stage as a skirt! No finished edges. The white underside was showing.
THEN bubbled skirts that looked like pumpkins in bright orange and blue came out. They were made of a tinseled or Webkinz material and were HANOUS. I'm so confused as to what Lew Kee was thinking!

Then at the end she finally tied things together with a little more than just black. She brought back the sheer dress and pinned the brooches right on the nipples. Again we could see the brooch pin showing through at the side. The high waisted undies were back, thank God.

You could tell that EVERYONE was confused. Normally people don't talk very much during a fashion show, because they are impressed. In this case everyone was talking, raising eyebrows, and getting headaches. The leggings were done better than most things, but they were exactly what you could get at a cheap chain store...

One of the only things done really right was the hair (pulled back into bun with a twist at the top) and plain concealer. Where was the blue lipstick though?

I'm not sure what Lew Kee's cliental was because the Webkinz dresses might be worn be a two year old, but the sheer parts could only be worn by a 18-25 year old with a hot body and some pretty undergarments...
A zipper dress with asian floral print. I didn't mind the print but didn't see what was special about it.

Rochelle was my FAVOURITE model this week!

Wrapping paper dress.

Flowers on nipples.

Pumpkin Webkinz?
Orange cat Webkinz.

Lew Kee and one of the only reasonable dresses.
